Former council employee arrested - 4 November 2016

A 52-year-old Hughenden man was charged last night (3 November 2016) with a number of criminal offences following an investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).

It’s alleged that the former Flinders Shire Council employee used his position within the council to award contracts to his own personal business which he was allegedly operating independently of his employment with the council.

The investigation by the CCC identified the 52-year-old’s business allegedly supplied various products to the council valued at $842,000.

CCC officers arrested the man last night. He was released on bail to appear before the Townsville Magistrate Court on 22 November 2016 to face the following charges:

  • 1 x Fraud contrary to section 408C(1)(b) of the Qld Criminal Code 1899
  • 2 x Uttering contrary to section 488(1)(b) of the Qld Criminal Code 1899
  • 1 x Forgery contrary to section 488(1)(a) of the Qld Criminal Code 1899

As this matter is now before the court, the CCC is unable to comment further.

Editor’s Note: The CCC updated this media release on 07 November 2016 to change the court date to 22 November 2016. The original media release incorrectly stated the court date was 16 November 2016.
