CCC charges man with drug trafficking - 7 November 2017

A 43-year-old man was extradited from New South Wales yesterday (6 November 2017) to face drug offences following a Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation.

The man was a target of Operation Gloss which commenced in 2014 and focused on the Queensland-based activities of a criminal syndicate that was allegedly producing and distributing crystal methylamphetamine in Sydney and the Gold Coast.

The CCC issued an arrest warrant for the man in 2015. He was serving a custodial sentence in a NSW correctional facility following drug-related offences in NSW. Upon his release yesterday, he was arrested pursuant to the CCC arrest warrant. He appeared in the Goulburn Magistrates Court (NSW) yesterday where extradition proceedings were commenced.

He was remanded in custody yesterday and appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning on the following charges:

  • 1 x Trafficking in dangerous drugs contrary to section 5 of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986
  • 1 x Supply dangerous drug contrary to section 6 of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986
  • 1 x Drive under the influence of a drug contrary to section 79(1)(a) of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995

He was remanded in custody today and is expected to reappear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 10 November 2017.

As the matter is now before the court, the CCC is unable to comment further.

The CCC is an independent agency combating major crime and reducing corruption for the benefit of the Queensland community.
