Bundaberg man charged with multiple child exploitation and indecent treatment offences - 18 May 2016

This is joint CCC and QPS Media Release

A 42-year-old Bundaberg North man has been charged with multiple child exploitation offences and indecent treatment of a child following an investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) and the Queensland Police Service (QPS).

The man was initially identified by the CCC during an ongoing investigation that is focused on individuals accessing and distributing child exploitation material online using peer to peer software.

The CCC executed a search warrant at a Bundaberg North address yesterday afternoon (17 May 2016) and located a number of computer and electronic storage devices. The CCC analysed the computer equipment and allegedly found a large amount of child exploitation material, including image and video files.

The CCC was assisted by the QPS Bundaberg Child Protection Investigation Unit (CPIU).

The 42-year-old man was taken to the Bundaberg Watchhouse where he was charged by the CCC with:

  • 1 x Possessing Child Exploitation Material contrary to section 228D (Qld Criminal Code 1899)
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to access child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i)&(aa)(b) (Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995)
  • 1 x Use a carriage service to make available child pornography material contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(iii)&(aa)(b) (Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995)
  • 1 x Disobedience to lawful order issued by statutory authority contrary to section 205(1) (Qld Criminal Code 1899)

The man appeared in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court this morning (18 May 2016) and was remanded in custody.

Upon further analysis of the material seized, the QPS will also allege the man indecently treated a child under the age of 16.

The 42-year-old man was charged by Bundaberg CPIU officers this afternoon with:

  • 1 x Indecent treatment of child under age of 16 contrary to section 210 (1)(a) (Qld Criminal Code 1899)
  • 28 x Indecent treatment of child under age of 16 contrary to section 210 (1)(f) (Qld Criminal Code 1899)

He has been remanded in custody and his additional 29 charges are expected to be mentioned in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court tomorrow (19 May 2016).

As the CCC and QPS investigation remains ongoing and these matters are now before the court, is not appropriate to comment further.
