39-year-old man to face court over alleged secret commissions and fraud — 07.10.2014

The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has today issued a 39-year-old Narangba man with a Notice to Appear in court on 16 charges, including soliciting secret commissions, fraud and fraudulent falsification of records.

In April 2013, the former Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) and the Queensland Police Service commenced a cooperative investigation into allegations including official misconduct and fraud.

In January 2014 the CMC finalised its investigation and referred a brief of evidence to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for consideration of criminal charges.

After receiving advice from the ODPP on 1 October, the CCC has decided to proceed with the following criminal charges:

  • 2 x Solicitation of Secret Commissions, contrary to s. 442B Qld Criminal Code
  • 5 x Fraud, contrary to s. 408C Qld Criminal Code
  • 9 x Fraudulent Falsification of Records, contrary to s. 430(a) Qld Criminal Code

The CCC will allege that between August 2011 and May 2013 the man committed fraud offences worth $725 000 and solicited at least $400 000 in secret commissions from two entities. The CCC will not allege that the man ever received the secret commissions.

The 39-year-old man is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 23 October 2014.

As the matter is now before the courts, the CCC will make no further comment.
